the story of

The Liggetts are a bedroom-pop family music project.

When the kids started taking music lessons, Brad decided to learn too. As the kids' talent grew, so did their dad's quixotic dreams of performing as an old-timey family band.

When a worldwide pandemic hit, Brad found himself with a lot of free time and a home office that could easily double as a makeshift recording studio. He came up with the idea to write and record a song for each of his kids for their birthdays that year.

Encouraged by the kids' rave reviews, Brad decided to write a Christmas song next. He came up with “Christmas in Quarantine”, a song that celebrates the triumph of the Christmas spirit, no matter how crazy the circumstances.

Instead of sending a Christmas card that year, Brad thought it would be hilarious to send out the song as a CD single. With fresh portraits of the family as the cover art, the single went out to everyone on the family's mailing list. Brad enjoyed hearing that his loved ones were amused to find a compac disc in their mailbox that yearand some of them even said they liked the song.

Every winter since, The Liggetts have tried to spread some holiday cheer by giving their friends and family the gift of music.

In 2021, The Liggetts sent out a CD single for their anti-"Christmas Karen" anthem, “It’s Christmas Time Again”. The family created a music video that tells the story of a man possessed with a magical holiday spirit who recruits his children to spread the good tidings of all winter holidays to the neighborhood.

On December 5, 2022, The Liggetts dropped a surprise, self-titled debut album. The CD they mailed included 13 hidden tracks that could be discovered by waiting for the disk to play 86 tracks of brief silence. The bonus tracks are an audio commentary for each song on the album plus a fully Spanish version of the album’s third song. The tracks have since been released as a spoken word album.

For 2023, The Liggetts put their spin on a holiday classic with "We Wish You a Liggy Christmas". Breaking with tradition, Brad mailed a postcard with the single's cover art instead of a CD.

In 2024, The Liggetts began performing their first live shows. On December 22, 2024, The Liggetts performed for a sell-out crowd at Farmhouse Corner Market in San Luis Obispo, California. The band premiered the original songs from their debut album and covered some of their favorite artists from Depeche Mode to Chappell Roan.

In December 2025, The Liggetts took on "The Friendly Beasts" with their vision of a whimsical Christmas carol whose roots go back to the 13th-century. The first written tune, Orientis Partibus ("from eastern lands"), was sung in medieval France during the “Feast of the Ass”. Likely adopted from a pagan festival, the holiday celebrates the legendary yet lowly donkey who is said to have played a critical role in several of Jesus's major life events.

The festival became increasingly crass and irreverent and was quickly quashed in England. But the musical ode to the donkey lived on in folk carols. The words evolved alongside the English language itself until they solidified into the familiar verses that bring the donkey, the cow, the sheep, and the dove together to sing about the humble gifts they gave the baby Jesus. The beloved song continues to see innovation from modern songwriters such as Burl Ives, Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, and Sufjan Stevens. Like the namesake beasts who each gave according to their ability, The Liggetts feel honored to offer their meager contribution to the song's long and joyful legacy.
